OUR MISSION
The Hikma Foundation, through a multifaceted collaborative academic and intellectual mission, aims to establish a series of initiatives to further the study of Shi’a Islam in academia. While Islamic studies has a long and rich history in western academia, Shi’ism has traditionally been treated as either marginal or heterodox to mainstream orthodox Islam. This is despite the origins of Shi’ism in the founding moments of Islam and Shi’ism’s contribution not just as a confessional identity within Islamic civilisation but also as a major contributor to global history, science and culture under various Shi’a dynasties, as well as the historical interfaith interactions of Shi’a intellectuals across time and space with diverse thinkers across various faith traditions.
